It's like somebody made a suicide cult, but the requirement was to kill yourself in the most painfully excruciating way imaginable. A little more ignorance is the part where one of them said they've lived off of no nutrition for yeeaars. But have a few mouthfuls of food just for the sake of taste.

I wonder where people get ideas like that? Starve yourself to enlightenment. Not just fasting, but for LIFE. Right. (All sarcasm inserted). And without water, sheesh, I'm surre, they didn't drink water for thirty years.
And you know it was desperation when the woman says they stopped the experiment cause they feared I'd succeed. Hello, they didn't want a lawsuit for letting a woman die on public TV. And what type of enlightenment are they seeking? They'll get enlightened all right, when they meet their deity in the afterlife.
I just feel sorry for those who let themselves get brainwashed into it and lost their lives, or rather if they had a problem with anorexia or some eating problem and thought that was the ultimate answer.
I honestly think after all this, people should start making it a case of manslaughter if someone is leading a cult that ends up resulting in death under their supervision.

Firstly this is spiritual so should be in the holy basket. I haved moved it.
Now about the article, the whole idea of starving your way to enlightenment is just dumb. I have heard of this kind of thing before as indian mystics of old prided themselves on not eating much in their quest to enlightenment
Our bodies are built this way for a reason. We are supposed to eat and drink. People are dying all around these fanatics, shouldn't they take that as a sign that maybe, just maybe, starving yourself is not the way to englightenment.

Should, but apparently it eluded them greatly.
I think they should start making cults register and if it's deemed an unhealthy cult, they must disband them.
Anymore than 2 people dying and gotta stop whatever you're doing and no longer practice it or preach it as enlightening. Wanna kill someone kill yourself. No telling others of what you're doing for enlightenment or anything.

Not disband, Nightwolf .. arrest for murder. There is nothing spiritual about this.
It's your lowliest, dirtiest murder through scamming people into believing they won't die. Without doubt all those followers who die leave their hard-earned money with the 'breatharians' so those murderers can throw a big feast on their costs.

it seems a little strange that people would think that starving themselves would bring them to enlightenment! the people in charge of this are taking advantage of impressionable individuals which i find very disturbing ..

yeah they should start enforcing some sort of law regarding these kind of cults..it is pretty shameful and disgusting
on the flip side...one must be very guillible to believe that starvation won't lead to death

*Nods* Very impressionable and gullible minds, but the problem with people nowadays is they want to have faith in something. Whether it's religion, a cult, they want desperately to believe in something that may lead to good shining holy lights or something, and suppose these people thought it was the way. Too bad it was basically like killing yourself in the worst way possible.
Zan, I thought murder first, but problem is that one lovely word 'Free will'. Although it could classify as murder, the court would deny that they threatened to kill them, there's was no means to intend harm as they were doing it too, and so on. They see 30 yr old woman with husband and kids voluntarily starving herself to death, only thing they can say is the assisting in it could be a crime or that they were watching over her and telling her not to give in to temptation. Sad, and totally irritating but true.
Now the ones where they give everyone the Kool-Aid and make them drink it, that's not mass suicide, it's a Murder- Suicide, if the person even drinks their own poison. Most just move on to the next lot that is looking for lost faith and a quick ticket into heaven.

That they were doing it too, I don't believe. Anyone who doesn't eat or drink dies. They most likely pretended to starve themselves in public only.
And I bet that they had to forcefully keep someone from eating or drinking at least once, probably a lot more. That is murder in my book.

Yeah, I really don't believe they did it themselves, especially the mentioned we ate food or drank once or twice just to be polite. Right. They'd be dead if they didn't eat enough to sustain themselves
Hmm, I hadn't thought of that loophole. So they can be charged, just makes you wonder why they haven't?
Our governments can be idiots sometimes. They're like only if they're publicly harmed should we do something about this. *Shakes head* Our world

i agree in that they can't have lived for this long, building up a whole organisation, without eating enough to sustain themselves....they can't live without food..and this makes the whole operation doubly bad as they must realise their claims are false and yet they continue to peddle them
with regard to murder and forcibly restraining people from food...peer pressure is a very powerful tool...i believe this is a more likely culprit for forced stavation than physical restrainment....watchful eyes of other bretharains looking at you disapprovingly..even if you desperately want to eat and/or are going mad...just those stares may prevent you from eating
morally it's murder..but not by a legal and material definition

Honestly I think with the way the legal system seems so ready to let criminals go free, they should bend their own stupid laws and try to get it to convict those leaders of murder. Might be influential, but just one's presence could be thought of as an accomplice to suicide, if there was a thing.
Our system seems ready to excuse away murder more than saving lives it seems.
