As I sit listening to Radioheads Exit music for a film, I realized that we didn't have a section for Music Talk.

Here, you can post a fave song just heard, fun concert just attended, or new song you heard and liked and want to share. :)

Any other kind of music talk is welcome

I have two music speaks. One, my fave group Staind is coming to Washington on Aug. 27th. Be first time seen them in concert and first time I'll ever have been to a concert. Yay me :D

Secondly, I like the radiohead song, exit music for a film. Although slightly morbid in the end, with it's proclamation, of we hope that you choke, still is a fantastic song and backdrop for Romeo and Juliet, old and new :)

Recently I've started practicing acoustic guitar very heavily. Right now I've been listening to alot of music by Don Ross and Michael Hedges, both amazing acoustic guitar players. Michael Hedges' Ritual Dance and Don Ross's Michael, Michael, Michael are probably my two favorite guitar songs at the moment.

Successs!!!!!!!

I have been searching for this bloody song for months, can't even remember how long, only that every chance I got I searched far and wide for it and could never find it. Now another person found it and I'm so glad for it. Yays!

I don't think I've ever been this excited for a song. Teeheee.

To mycatsaregrey: That song we both have heard and search for, it's called Wartime lullaby by tenshekel shirt :)

Here's their myspace page http://www.myspace.com/tenshekelshirt

Nobody talks music, but oh well.

I've owned Shinedown's album leave a whisper for years and mostly only liked maybe 5 of the songs on there.
Then the other day, I just let the whole cd play out and I found 4 or 5 or 6 more songs I liked on it. I was soo excited. Then i became too obsessed and so decided to drive one day without shinedown and just listening to regular radio.

I'm flipping through the stations, when i come across this literal kick ass song and I turn it up and am rocking out as I drive and as I turn into my job, the announcer says, Sound of Madness - Shinedown.

I'm like that's ironic. I make it through the entire 45 minute drive with no shinedown, and it randomly gets played as i get to work.

Needless to say Sound of madness is now #7 song I like, though not on leave a whisper album :D

well i'm a social/cultural disaster in the western world when it comes to music..i'm very "fresh/fob/immigrant" in my musical tastes..not really into english language music with the exception of mine and shadows song..and also britney spears *ducks to escape a barrage of rotten tomatoes*

hindi language music i can relate to more, reverberates with me more...better to dance to...also is soooo much more poetic in meaning (though none of you would know :P)

the one type of music that would come marginally close to my beloved hindi music is probably latin/spanish language music..very similar in terms of danceability/tempo/liveliness/style/whatever

and that is why i never discuss music with non indians/people not from the subcontinent/people who aren't shadow (my mate) :P

and i am not embarassed by my non coolness!..although the way it was in school and this country you would think i would be...why is it so wrong to like your country's music over all others? given that i spend practically every other friday watching some hindi movie or another/keeping in with the scene

in terms of music i just dont fit in with everyone else here..but that goes with just about everything that is me :P..i just end up going "oh ok".."or yeah i have heard of that band" when i havent...one reason why i dont go to clubs is because this type of music is not enough to make me want to dance/is not as fun to me

also..yes i use some "fresh/immigrant/fob" verbs to discribe a minute amount of things such as how a movie was because it is simply the best descriptor..but hey i never lived in india..i dont have an accent..i am not dark skinned (thank god..i love fair complexions)..i do not have masses of oil in my hair or a narrow minded attitude..so yeah mostly am not "fresh" in that respect

/endrant :P

in summary..anti-coolness rocks! lets make lame the new cool!

I don't know who gave you the idea that liking non-mainstream music is a disaster ... but I bet that they were very uncool, narrowminded culture barbarians. No, wait .. make that something with less interest in culture than a barbarian: modern day teenagers! :P

I can appreciate oriental music and have several cd's full of it. Most would be indian, chinese or japanese meditation music though so probably not the same as yours Rose but still ...

It proves the point that people who listen to non-mainstream music are cool.

Another type of music I can enjoy too would be native american music. And when I'm not trying to meditate it's usually movie soundtracks, instrumental, rock, metal, gothic, ...

*Hugs Rosey* It's not uncool to like your own cultures music. It all depends on what you're exposed to early on and what soothes your soul.

If you've got a bit of a harder edge to you, then you'd be into more rock, however if you have no need for harder edge music, then why stray from soothing sounds of indie music. Good way to think of it no?

*Grimaces* I'm a terrible liar to myself, and though punk rock, metal, heavy metal, etc are my first loves. I must say I myself have an affinity to my not really sure if it's my culture or what. But Hip hop music. I'm not a fan of rap. It has no rhythm or soul to it. Well except Tupac. I like some of his songs, the rest has too many curse words :S

However I digress occassionally when I feel like dancing I'll get into a hip hop mood and want to dance to the beat. However I've also found some songs are easier to sway to as well. Then as Z said, there's the meditation music and a whole slew of others for me.

I like all types of music, if I sing to it or it connects to my soul, then I love it. Country, rock, hip hop, rap, heavy metal, new age, indie, celtic, etc. Can't name em all. Which is why I need an ipod or some music device. I can go through all genres in the blink of an eye, cause my brain is weird like that. lol

Right now however, my main song I like listening to is Called Wind Blows by All American Rejects. It suits me now, cause it reminds me of how sometimes I feel insubstantial, slightly disconnected from this world. I can't seem to anchor myself no matter what. :S

But yeah, my two cents for the night

Yeah you're right about the exosure..growing up my family and their friends were and still are hard core traditional type indians that don't really enjoy english music...so i was exposed to a lot of that and i liked it a lot

Ofcourse people at school were different and listened mostly to mtv and american music. I did make an effort half way through high school though to watch a bit of mtv to follow conversations about music...but when people asked me I'd be liked hmm I'm not really into that...so most apart from my close friends thought i was unmusical...but if i was in india or dubai i would be very 'cool' and 'music savvy'...i know practically all the indian songs

But there are a few exceptions..I really liked evanescence back in the day but not enough to follow them and god knows what happened to them now. I liked some isolated songs..there was one by michelle branch I quite liked...but out of all those, apart from the ones shadow and I designated as 'our songs'...the one non indian song I play frequently on my mp3 player is Halo from One Tree Hill by the Haley James Scott character

As for hip hop, yeah it's alright, it can be quite enjoyable to listen to but imo it's just to stereotypical for me..what I mean is that all the british asians here are into hip hop, rap..that kind of music...if theres a hip hop theme club night..they're there...i mean its ok but i don't like it that much lol

I must be weird again and disagree with Nightwolf. When I started to show an interest in music, I was tossed into the hardcore culture ... yanno, the old Thunderdome/gabber cults. :P

Now I'm miles away from that kind of music, it's right up there just below rap as unmoving noise. Rap only wins because it also has the whole 'ghetto' atmosphere, which is about as far away from my ideals and morals as you can get.

*Does not know who gabber is or Thunderdome or mossel* :P

My mom grew up in the hip hop/R&B/Rap culture. So she listened to it and therefore when younger, I listened to it and associated it with moods and stuff. However I remember when I was 13, Crawling by Linkin Park was either the first or one of the first rock songs I heard. At that time I was always filled with some rage or another for next to no reason. Rap/Hip Hop/ and R&B do nothing to soothe my anger. It felt off, but listening to the lyrics Crawling in my skin at the top of the lungs and hearing there's something inside me that pulls beneath the surface, just spoke volumes to me. Ever since then I was a true rock fan. Then i slowly converted my family. I still call upon R&B for romantic music, cause Rock isn't particularly always geared towards romance. I've learned to like techno and some different music I can't name the genre of for dancing as well, but hip hop I love the beats of too.

I'll say that rap is my least favorite music as it really does not make sense and also doesn't connect to my soul, and way of life the way rock often does.
Not to mention the following of rap and hip hop truly annoys or amuses me. I'm like okay loose pants are good for room, but I do not get the whole boxers/pants showing and lordy the whole shizzle dizzle crud grates my nerves. People look at me as is typical and expect me to know all sorts of rappers and know like the lingo and I'm like going okay yeah. I'm going where sane people don't say fo shizzle my nizzle and know what it means.

I'm not a mosh pit headbanger either though. I just kinda groove to my own music and My own pace and I love it. Heh.
