More of sleep problems than dreams.

For some reason (even though I'm tired) I can't seem to fall asleep quickly at all, which doesn't bother me too much. What really bugs me is that I can't stay asleep. I keep waking up every few hours. Any suggestions for something that might knock me out for more than a few hours at a time?

hmm well a lot of the natural remedies i know of just make you sleepy..not sure if they encourage better sleep

other than a sleeping pill not sure what can be used to ensure you're asleep for a few hours straight

maybe you could do some exercises before you sleep so you're more tired?

Chamomille, lavender, valerian, hops, passion flower, Fennel, ... they're all herbs that can make you drowsy. Some of them you can find in tea-form in most supermarkets. Tinctures or other forms are a bit harder to come by but are usually more effective since they're more concentrated. Also scented oils or candles can work for you, especially the lavender type.

If you go off the natural path there are two things, sleeping pills and muscle-relaxers. Both can help you sleep better but you have to watch out for addictions. Especially sleep meds can get you addicted to them and you'll be needing more and more to sleep. Eventually you'll have to watch out for toxicity because you go can beyond the approved doses. Muscle relaxers are a bit lighter and just relax your body, making it easier to sleep.

My suggestion is to find what really is the reason that you are staying or waking up at night. Often there is a reason for losing sleep. Things that trouble you, unsolved issues, depression, (mental) hyperactivity ... or simply a dysfunctional biological clock caused by very irregular hours. If you know the reason and can fix that, your insomnia will probably pass on it's own.

I think I'll try the tea route first. I know some of what's going on is lack of not having a set sleeping pattern but there's not much I can do about that yet. Perhaps next quarter.
