Last week, when I visited some friends in Cali, I came across something rather new for me.

Almost every animal they had was a familiar. Not all mind you, but a majority of their critters, three of them the symbolic black cat, was a familiar in some way.

Blue, was my friend Koto's cat, he could sense astral presences or even visitors as we called them. The entire four days I was there, blue attached himself to me and watched over me as I slept. During the day, he would wander about and be fine, but at night he always seemed to stay by me.

Onyx was an energetic type familiar. We called him the sleep weave cat, cause everytime he sat on your lap for long, you eventually fell asleep. I was wide awake till I got him on my lap and began petting him, then suddenly found myself fast asleep. LOL. He was also if you felt down, he'd come and just being near him, could feel his energy. Kinda was hard to explain. He didn't go around ppl often, but when he chose too, you could feel the difference.

Sam and Maya were two other lesser familiars, but they were familiars if they liked you. Apparently they liked me, cause almost every night I went to bed, I'd have blue on my stomach, maya on my right and sam on my left, in a triangle. They'd all stay posted like that until morning. I have no clue why, and oddly enough, the last night I was there, they all dispersed, like they knew I didn't need any more protecting.

This was just an experience for me, and truly I hadn't thought that much on familiars till I was surrounded by them for four days, then when i came back, it was like walking out of some protected zone. Sadly neither of my cats at home are familiars, though they're cute little buggers.

Either way, any opinions? What do you think familiars are? What's their purpose and have you ever met any?

Why do you believe these cats were familiars and the ones at your home are not?

Mostly because of the energy they produced.

The familiar type critters, seemed to understand everything around them, and would react almost in spirit to you.

It's hard to describe, but it was like, after being around the cats all the time and I'm sure the people as well, it was like a mainstream energy that just flowed without interupption. The cats were part of that flow and contributed.

When i came home, it was like that flow was completely interrupted or cut off. Like even around my cats, it was like no energy sharing or contribution and they didn't understand any energy flow, except if it was concerning their food or survival.

To me they were just different cats, and reminded me of White wolf, my buddy when I was younger, who almost felt like he could talk back to me, even though he was a dog.

Ahh so the familiars weren't really any different from your cats at home? It's just the energy of the place (and most likely all the people gathered there) that made those cats into something more?

This also comes down to my definition of a familiar, well one kind at least. To me familiars are either completely spiritual/energetic constructs/pets ... or the real animal companion with which you create an energetic bond with. In other words you craft an energetic construct that attaches itself to the animal and will develop more or less independently.

I've shared such a bond with my dog for a short while but it was weak and I didn't have the time to reinforce it .. especially since other people of my family tended to mess it up again. T was an interesting experiment though but I'm not sure if it did him good to be honest.

Possibly, hadn't thought of it that way, Heh.

That's kinda my thoughts on what they were, was that they held energy that was created by the ppl and eventually it ended up being independently the creatures until the humans conversed in energy speak with them, heh

So when I was there, they were able to freely give it to me and use it for whatever purpose.

I was much more easily emotionally able with white wolf to share his energy, cause he was as rejected as me, and I protected him when other ppl were being mean to him. So suppose we leaned on each other. Heh It did us both good, though I never owned him, he wouldn't let me. It was like our unofficial rule and even more so when he chose his own family. Heh
