Just wondering what all of your thoughts on the subject of magic having an inherent color are. You know...how people refer to magic as "black," "white," etc.

Personally, I don't think magic has an intrinsic color. That being said, the practitioner gives magic an intent which usually comes with a color. For example, love magic is often thought of as red because red is a color that many attribute to love. You get the picture. If you asked me, magic is colorless until the practitioner gives it color.

One person might view "hate" magic as black, another might envision it as pink with green polka dots.

So what about you guys?

Seriously now, magic is energy to me.

Color is a purely human concept, it's our brain's interpretation of different light frequencies. Energy or magic also has a wide variety of frequencies in my opinion, though it doesn't really emit light. However some people can still differentiate between frequencies just like we can differentiate between colors. I even think that our brains place colors onto the frequency differences to make the whole concept easier to understand, in which case the color tags would be highly subjective indeed .. so you could say, yes. Magic has color but what color depends on the specific use(r).

Well I don't know about frequencies and all that stuff but I think that people attribute colours to differen types of magic to sort of symbolise it..because of the emotions, thoughts, and concepts associated with the colour it may be easier to think of a certain kind of magic as having the attributes/qualities of a certain colour...

like you said red is attributed to love because its a colour of passion, intensity, desire, etc..which conceptually maps quite well with love magic....as for black magic, the idea there i think is that black connotates hate, darkness, bad feelings, mourning, death (though not in all cultures)...so given that 'black magic' usually has some sort of dark or ill intent people might find it easier to think of it with the associated concepts from the colour..to make it easier to understand

I agree magic doesn't have a color.

I mean generally when one does energy work, which is magic in every essence, one only sees the air in front of them and seeing is a state of mind in itself. Seeing the ripples energy could cause is like seeing heat rising from the pavement. It's only visible because some odd trick of the eye and mind reception.

However it does bring to mind a thought. That if magic is energy as all things are energy and magic is colorless, then what in the energy does one perceive when one can peripherally 'read' anothers aura?

I mean for paper sake but of course, will use colors of own perception, however, if it's just a random person and they don't even have a definition of what the colors mean and they see a color in a person's aura, then what colors are they then seeing?

If you asked me (and technically you did ) not everyone will view another person's aura as being the same color. Why? Because colors mean different things to different people. Where one person might see someone's aura as predominantly purple because the reader perceives loyalty being purple, another could very well view the same person's aura as being predominantly orange for the same reason.

While I do believe that energy has intent/symbolic meaning/etc., symbolic meaning especially pertaining to auras, again not everyone links the same color to the same meaning.

On a random note, I don't know what colour I would give to 'loyalty'

I just go with purple since (as I remember it from my highschool european history class) apparently purple was attributed to royalty and knights and such as a sign of being loyal to the king, people, each other, whatever.

Grey, it's the steady, moderated 'color' between black and white extremes .. contains everything but doesn't stand out. Just like loyalty entails steadiness, moderation and never placing yourself above another.

I might give it green because for some reason I equate it as being as steady as a rock/earth.

And yeah I was just going to say I was taught that purple is the colour of royalty...but i dont necessarily equate that to loyalty...is there anyone who is truly loyal to a king or queen? don't they all look for some measure of power or favour or means of getting into the 'inner circle'?

I don't know what color I'd give loyalty, probably some strong color, which signifies the bond that lasts a long while.

I did find that I give Rage the color of purple for some reason. I noticed that over the week as very many people were made this week. heh

In thinking of emotions with individual colors, one realizes that indeed you can't give a person a one color aura answer, as all our emotions blend to create different colors, so wouldn't just be one.

I thought I'd think of it as red or black, but indeed I saw purple around all the angry folks over this past week. A very vibrant purple color. heh
