Alrighty, not sure if this went here, or in like the cirque area, cause it kinda describes both.

However, I was inspired by Rosey here and didn't want to crash her discussion on a mini series. ;)

I figured would do one on books vs movie people if it's not already been done, been gone a while.

Anyway, Do you prefer reading to watching movies? Movie adaptation of certain books or original books over movie adaptation? Do you watch more movies than read or Read more than you watch movies and Why?

Do you think it's the way you were raised(Using like that part that likes visual stimuli more than absorption or just a preferred pasttime over the other?

Any opinions included and I mean comic book adaptations as well ;) (I.e. xmen comics vs the movies.)

well it all depends for me really...usually the books i read dont get turned into movies, its the other way around....i watch a movie or miniseries then read the book but skip the book thats been adapted alltogether if there's no criticism about changing the plot and continue with the rest of the series....like i love the LOTR movies but couldn't read the books

but on the other hand if i read a book first and reaally love it, like the dragonlance series..and it gets turned into a movie then its another story...i couldn't watch the dragonlance cartoon movie cause i didn't want to watch them ruin my fave character, raistlin

so like zan said before...it depends on which one i come across first :)

Most of my opinion is already in that other thread mentioned above but I would like to add that I really enjoy both. If I can choose it'd be movies though, for one main reason:

They have the added experience of sound(tracks).

I can visualize things easily so I don't have a problem with seeing a book play out infront of me ... but I'm music illiterate so I can't go thinking up well-timed tune while reading.

The soundtrack is also one of the most important aspects that can make or break a movie, along with the obvious ones: a storyline, special effects and casting/acting prestations.

i dont think you need music to go with the your imaginings of a book..that comes from watching movies i think...but if i personally had to choose between a book and movie it would be a movie, at least first then the book...because altough i have no issues visualising...i just love being able to actually see a story visually...the facial expressions on the characters, the sets, the action, everything

but this doesn't conflict with my book reading because i'm very into historical faction and fantasy novels..they don't make that many fantasy movies...i cannot read contemporary fiction..so not incompatible at all..as for historical fiction vs movies...well movies/tv/mini-series any day..theres something so gorgeous about the costumes as well as everything else i mentioned...but again not really incompatible because i haven't come across any historical fiction book that i have personally read that is also a movie..and if i saw the movie, i don't want to read the book..although this rule tends to be quite variable with fantasy

one historical series that i would love to see on the big screen or small screen is bernard cornwell's saxon series...they're great and would be great to watch also

It all depends on my mood and the movie or book at hand. I prefer movies when it comes to horror subjects because books don't really scare me outside of Pet Sematary and then it's mostly due to the music. I prefer books to their movie adaptations because I have never seen a movie that got it right outside of Interview With A Vampire and even that wasn't wholly accurate.

Started the topic and forgot to responds.

So yeah, me, I'm a book person and movie person. Generally the two classes haven't mixed until more recent years for me. Ie: The green mile, harry potter, and blood and chocolate.

I like books mostly cause of the amount of detail you can put into it, and the way you can imagine a character described the same way and make that character unique to you and you alone and never lose it. Example, Gabriel from Blood and chocolate. I loved Gabriel, he was my fave character. All tough, bad arse leader of the pack type, but gentle towards the mate he'd chosen. It was such a good balance of character for him and vivian. The movie totally killed the image for anyone who never read blood and chocolate. I'd have no issue if the movie hadn't been named the same as the book, but it was. Anyway, I still love the books cause you get more info as well and sometimes the little nuisances of a book, can make sense of the entire thing.

Movies on the other hand, I rate similarly. Though I don't think I saw a movie go to book, or maybe I did. I don't remember which though. Anywho, I go by good acting, how believable they are and so on. Nothing really spectacular. I am a movie critic, a movie has to be good or potential for it for me to watch. Something that makes one go wow.

Books have to keep me in from page one to whatever it reaches. I once read a book called Raptor red when younger. Longest book I ever read at the time. Only about a raptor and her struggle to survive. I liked that book. :)

But yeah, me book gal, movie critic teehee

The book is basically always better than the movie. While many movie adaptations are very good, the book is just plain better. So I like to do both...read the book *and* watch the movie in no particular order.

I agree most of the time the book is better than the movie.

For me I like the X Men comics better only cause they give more detail and don't change the story this and that like the movies do,.

But still I do like seeing them in the movies cause it helps to see them in 3 dimensional form and seeing diffrent acters play them.

and other books I would love to see turn in to movies like hawk song not sure how that will look but it may be a good movie but still,.

Speaking of books and movies, apparently they're making movies based on the original Shannara Trilogy by Terry Brooks..I wrote a review of the sword of shannara in a different thread

I don't know how I feel about that because the book was just OK. It's weird because the 2nd book is getting made before the first and I haven't read it yet...but who knows, maybe the movie will be better than the book. I'll still watch it though

Everyone's also telling me to read the Twilight books but I'm perfectly happy to wait for the New Moon movie. I don't want to spoil things or have spoilers. Plus I wouldn't have bought it anyway, while I love vampires majorly, I'm not reading any vampire novels atm. I'm into fantasy right now

I would love to see Hawk Song made into a movie, Though I was rather disappointed how the rest of the series played out. I would love to see the dancers guild, perform their sakkri's for real though.

I'm still trying to imagine their dance, heh.

If it's not the same Hawk song I'm thinking of, well never mind. Teehee

On twilight I have mixed emotions. For some reason I can't be happy knowing it's mostly based on a glorified love story with a vampire. Not sure why. I just don't like it. Heh. I might read it first and maybe that'll inspire me to really want to see how the movie turned out.

Now I'd love, if they could do a good job, to see some of Sherrilyn Kenyon's books, my fave author, made into a movie. Especially night play or Acheron.
