So the recent discussion on kermit the frog inspired me to make this topic :P

What is your fave cartoon character or children's tv show character?

I'll tell you mine after responses but I will say this....I hate spongebob! :P

Spongebob needs to absorb a few liters of sulphuric acid.

My favorite cartoon character .. tough question, I think Batman if I have to choose now.

My favorite anime character (they're cartoons too :P) would be Gatts but that's definitely not a children's tv show character.

I know it's really tough to pick right? Well in terms of my fave cartoon characters it's gotta be the penguins or King Julian from Madagascar..they have a great new tv show called The Penguins of Madagascar set in the zoo..it rocks!

When I was a kid I really liked Bugs Bunny and also Tom and Jerry...they still rock 'specially bugs...the original bugs that is..it sucked when they changed him to 'Buzz Bunny' to update the character and made him totally lame and just not Bugs..everyone hated that and I think they changed him back but I'm not sure

I like Batman too, but not one of my faves. I used to watch Batman, Supeman, Spiderman, and X-Men regularly though on tv when I was younger...it's part of the reason why I looove superhero movies and will probably see each and every one of them...except for Watchmen..that was the worst superhero movie of all time..but I digress

Oh my god! How could I miss Pinky and the Brain! They are right up there with the Penguins and King Julian. They rock!

Narf, narf!

Those were all great cartoons, yeah ... never heard about bugs' make-over but I can't imagine what could be improved.

I also see why you'd like King Julian. :P

I watched X-men religiously as a child. I also liked the Snorks, Blues Clues, the Smurfs, the PowerPuff Girls, Winnie the Pooh, I think my favorite was Eeyore when I was younger.

As for anime, I love Hatsuharu from Fruits Basket.

I decidedly watched too much tv as a child. Heh.

However, I must say my fave character when younger was Sage of the Ronin Warriors. He represented wisdom, go figure.

I was a fan of gohan until he sorta became really wussy and geeky. Then I was like noo, so much lost potential. Sailor moon was a fave of mine, and I was jupiter.

As for anime, favorite character would definitely be Kiba of Wolf's Rain ^_^

I loved Pingu. And then when I was a bit older, I liked anything that had a bit of the occult or supernatural in t. :D

Funny pingu should be mentioned as that's one of the shows they just recently added to anime network or anime cable. hehe

Most anime, you'd never really know it was anime until they made the distinction these past couple of years.

Such as Sailor Moon, Dragonball series, I'm not sure, but I think even the ninja turtles was anime.

Eventually if you were a cartoon network lover as I came to be, they started plastering up lots of anime and it became the new cartoon...for older kids. yep.

Cept pokemon, digimon, etc.

really? that's not true i don't think..anime is very very clear and distinctive to me..imo ninja turtles isn't anime...to me anime is very distinctive in terms of style of drawing, language (japanese!), and weirdness too...but mainly drawing style and being japanese

living in asia it was very clear to me that on tv jap stuff is anime and everything else isn't...never really looked at it conceptually but i'm pretty sure according to wikipedia or the dictionary i must be right

i used to watch a lot of cartoon network...but i guess when i watched it there wasn't much anime or i didn't notice it...i used to watch johnny bravo and the show with droopy well there must have been others but i don't remember

Ninja turtles was american, they recruited some Japanese directors or something I think but the script and artwork is obviously very american.

I think that even though anime indeed started out as something very distinctive, those boundaries are slowly fading now. Japan is no longer isolated and it's culture, including anime, is very popular in the western world. I'm spotting more mixed influences lately ... still mostly experiments and attempts at uniqueness but the anime style is slowly merging with others, american comic style, 3D animations, etc.

Droopy! He rocks ... he's always managing to stay so cool.

One type of cartoons I never really could appreciate is the Nickelodeon stuff they beat you to death with now ... but even the older equivalents like Ren & Stimpy, I never liked. They were just poor, horrid artwork and a lot of excessively low humor.
