It was in 2000 that I awakened, at least, that was when I first realized there was no way I was entirely human. Physically I was human, but there was something definitely "unearthly" about me. At the same time Occult interests surfaced, and I felt more out of place than ever. I was only eleven at the time, but long before that I had known there was something odd about me. I just didn't "fit in" to the extent that I often felt "alienated", or like an alien.

Granted, I am no alien. I do live a fairly "normal" life now. I'm twenty years old, and a college student. I go to Church on most Sundays, and I do consider myself a Christian, although I am very liberal. Yet there's always the feeling that my spirit is not human.

When I was fourteen, I entered the community (therian and otherkin) for the first time. Even so, I couldn't figure out my true kintype. I would ponder, question, meditate. Often, I would think I had the answer, but there was no such luck. I think that until now, I had been in my teenage discovery process, and I may have gone through it far more intensely than most people. I may have focused too much, rather than too little...both faulty ways of finding one's self.

Needless to say, I do have a feeling I have found myself at last. At the age of twenty, I realize I feel bird like, have phantom bird limbs, such as a beak, a red, feathered crest, brown feathered wings, bird talons, but a long dragon like tail. After looking through various birds and dragons, I have come to a likely conclusion, and that is that I am a cockatrice, known as gye-ryong in Korea. (Gye-ryong literally means "chicken-dragon".) I have to say, that before this, I couldn't easily settle on anything, really. Now I finally feel like I have an answer, since I have not "changed" in over a month. Cockatrice felt right instantly, and continues to feel right, possibly more right, every day. In fact, I now feel almost guilty turning to anything else. Aside from feelings, there are also possible behavioral tendencies, such as curling my toes under when relaxed, or not liking to look into my eyes in the mirror...almost afraid of staring at them (one of the only sure ways to kill a cockatrice is to hold up a mirror to their face).

Yes, there is the possibility that this may change, but I no longer believe it will change drastically. I will always be a bird, and always will be (and probably always was), a cockatrice.

Now just to highlight the introduction facts:

Name: Treelow

Age: 20

Gender: Since there was no real option for both, female.

Location: IL, U.S.

Kintype: Likely cockatrice.

If you have any question feel free to ask. ;)

I think that exact size is almost impossible to determine. I do, however, think about the average dragon size.

Welcome to the grove, Treelow ... mind if I call you Tree? I always have this urge to abbreviate longer names but not everyone appreciates that so best to ask.

Definitely have to admit that you settled on a pretty unique kin type. It doesn't suprise me that you had to search for so long before you found that one thing that fit you. Also I doubt you're the only kin who tried looking for themselves too hard. It's a more common mistake than not looking hard enough in my opinion.

Calling me Tree is just fine ;)

And yes, looking too hard is definitely a common mistake.

Greetings Treelow. Mind if I shorten it to Tree as well? Like most people just call me night. :)

*Tosses green bouncy ball in friendship* I vaguely recall hearing of a cockatrice before. Beautiful bird. I'm susceptible to pretty feathers ^_^

Your stories sound much like many awakening therians. For most it's hard to look up characteristics and styles that match your phantom half. The most confusing I've found are phantom wings if you're a ground creature, heh. Though it sounds like you got the general concept I know many therians have. That sometimes it doesn't have to be a specific this or that, you can just be generally birdlike and let that be that. I've never really heard anyone ask for specifics really. I could just say canine therian and be one of many wild ones or any of a certain breed, so most rarely ask.

On the flip side, most try to get past their thought that they're insane for thinking they're part animal, more so than trying to figure out what they are exactly. heh

Anyway, look forward to hearing more of your opinions and Welcome to the grove ^_^
