I guess the last time I posted about Washington's annual Ren Faire was when the last grove was still operable. So I get to do one for this year's faire of 2009 ^_^ Yay!

So our annual Ren Faire was back this year after a one-two year absence due to local plot issues to set it up. It was just as fun this year and without the dust.

Since I worked all the weekends that it was open and also during the hours it was open, I decided to play hooky from work for a few hours, and go in later that day. I got my mom up at 10am in the morning, told her to get ready and we both set off for the ren faire. During the entire time we stood in line for entrance, we were regaled with tales of scotsman and ripe fish and sheep dangling from lines high above. Once through we set off in search of the arena where the jousting would be held. In the meanttime, we both went in search of my main objects at Ren Faires. Harem pants, Annual purchase of new jewelry, and Food!

I thought it extremely ironic that we go into a ren faire and first thing I hear yelled by the food vendors is 'Get your cappucino! Cappucinos or lattes, sold here. Ladies and gents get your cappucino!" I was laughing like nice, supposed to be medieval times, but they still gotta have their fancy coffee. lmao

We walked by face painting, jewelry shops, children getting to dress up as squires and challenge a puppet to a sword fight. The puppet lost gracefully each time :D I loved the kites, the archery range, the ale house, which was really just cream soda, root beer or lemon in very nice blue glass bottles. :D As I searched in one of the clothing areas, I bought my mom an Ivory Waist scarf with silver coins on it, and myself a black one as mentioned in general discussion. I'll post what one looks like in pictures, as my cam broke, so no actual photos.

Then we made our way to the jousting arena, only the show at the time was called Ma'ceo. It's this sorta gypsy dance with horse acrobatics included. Totally cool and had us all holding our breaths at one point. Especially when you had a belgian draft horse running around with one grown man standing straight up with another grown man standing straight up on his shoulders. Then one guy did a back flip from one horse to the next. Still as cool as the first time I saw it two years ago :)

Then we went in search of food. Got pulled pork sandwiches, and fries, while waiting for second show. Not necessarily in that order. lol. Then there was the jousting tournament. We were on the side representing the german champion. Across from us was the audience representing the italian champion, then the spanish champion and scottish champions were in the middle. They had a cabbage slice and the poor jester almost lost his head. There was the three rings and of course, the joust itself. My mom and I screamed ourselves silly with the rest whenever our champ was up, or in the mock sword fights on horseback. Fake only in that the swords weren't terribly sharp. lol

Then to top off a good day, my mom got her palm read and I got a bracelet. I got to pet more dogs, and horses that day than in a long while. The sun was out, but not too hot, and the clouds kept a nice cool breeze going. There was no dust and it was just a fabulous day to go out and have fun. I'll worry bout the consequences later :D

*Smiles* I'm glad they have an annual one here. Especially with jousting. It gives me something to look forward to once a year and it's scarcity of the occurence gives it more meaning and room to enjoy it without getting bored of it.

Like bowling and movies can be boring cause you do it so much as a kid, that when you're older you want to expand, but not enough to where everything can be boring
