I thought maybe this would be an interesting topic, considering most of us are music lovers. Simple too. All you do is say the name of a song and the artist, and if you feel like sharing, what it usually reminds you of, when you hear it or first heard it. You may toss in the main lyrics that triggers something if you like. This idea came to me as I sit listening to The Corner by Staind. The main lyrics that bring up a memory for me is: And there's the star I used to wish on...(Reminds me of when I used to place wishes on the moon at thirteen for love and peace to whisk me away from turmoil) And I stare out this dirty window, as this world goes slowly by... (Basically a continuation of above sentiment, as I used to stare out the apt windows as the world went slowly by, as I sat wishing on a star.) Lastly the ending of it, where it's like, And somewhere out there is the future, that I once thought had passed me by... (Mostly accounts for the present, and that there is a future somewhere out there, but I did feel as if I'd missed my future and was stuck.) That was the example, so let's see who else is brave

Well a lot of songs remind me of Shadow, my mate. Most of the music I listen to is not english so theres no point in me elaborating on that but the most obvious example to give of a song is Disappear by Hoobastank..that's our official song..pretty much the whole song makes me think of him...I say 'official' song because well many many songs remind me of my mate
And that's it really..I could give translated lyric examples for the non-english songs but not sure how useful that would be

*sings* Never made it as a wise man I couldn't cut it as a poor man stealing Tired of living like a blind man I'm sick of sight without a sense of feeling And this is how you remind me This is how you remind me Of what I really am This is how you remind me Of what I really am *mouth drops open at the sight of all the broken glass and agonized people as he stops singing*Sorry, just been listening to that song while I was driving home from work ... I won't try to destroy your eardrums again, promise. Anyways, I used to have some songs that reminded me of people but then those people changed and the songs were no longer applicable or became too painful to be listened to. So a large part of me wants to say I'd rather not stick a good song to an individual and risk ruining the song. Sometimes ya don't get a choice though ... music is a powerful trigger for memories/thoughts/feelings.

*Cheers* I love that song! I thought I had it, but I have another nickelback cd, so now I gotta go listen to it, thanks to you *Winks* I'd have to hear you sing before I could boo you off stage, sorry I listened to music based on emotion, but now I mostly just listen for the smooth rifts and heartfelt emotion in them. They become classics. Such as Jane Siberry's Calling all angels and it won't rain all the time. Music triggers memories/thoughts/feelings, but it's you who gets to choose, if you want to keep that song to the individual or like the song itself. I used to associate staind with depression, but now I can listen to it and remember that it was helpful during those times, but there's two sides to every song. So when I'm just in a mellow, just woke up in the morning, watching the sunrise, sipping tea mode, I listen to staind ^_^ Today though, my last customer reminded me of the lyrics to the song 'If I were you by Hoobastank.' Especially the lyrics of. 'Look what's around you now, more than you've ever dreamed. Have you forgotten just how hard it used to be?' My customer confided in me, that he had one year to live and 5 days before his hair fell out from cancer and chemotherapy. He missed his two daughters, who were off on scholarships in spain and cali, and that his life had been cut short after struggling so hard. I wanted to tell him, if I were you, I'd thank the stars for all that i have. Which is another part of the song. I wanted to hug him and tell him that he should be proud of what he accomplished in his lifetime. it's more than most get to experience. But yeah, he reminded me of that song, when he left. It was sad to say goodbye and know he may be gone in a year, even though I didn't know him personally.

i think sometimes you don't really get to choose because music gets tied to events as well...the song you heard when you met someone...songs you used to listen to while in school..those events are then attached to people..and voila! classical conditioning..eventually the song makes u think directly o the person not the event
but obviously active choosing is most comming..where you're like "hey this can be our song" or somethin

Every time I hear photograph by Nickelback I think about all the friends that I went to high school with and how much I miss them.

*Tilts head* I think that would make me selfish. lol
Songs I hear usually remind me of an event or a time in my life. Perhaps Because I didn't really have permanent friends, but noone particular song reminds me of someone.
I can recall why a song is familiar, if I haven't heard it in a while, but it's more loosely tied to like a decade or something. lol. Like I remember when I was young and listened to this, or I remember I was the first in my family to introduce this group to them.
Most important events in my life were strangely silent. Only the wind can conjure the feeling of what I miss at times.

*Grins* Like Monkey by George Michael.
I love love that song, though I haven't a clue what it means. I just remember loving it when I was younger. That and 'nothing Compares' by Sinead O Connor.
Ooh and can't forget the ever loving 500 miles from the movie Benny and Joon.
Those are soundtracks I liked.
Then there's the graduation song, 'Here's to the night' by Eve 6, that defined graduating almost for most american kids in the 90's.

Psh, you guys have no clue what you're talking about. They made perfectly good love songs. Okay, Backstreet boys made most good love songs, whereas Nsync was trying way too hard to be like pop peoples and sorta ruined the effect. Heck even my bro loved Backstreet boys. Apparently it was very useful for getting his gf all romantical and stuff. So take some notes why don't ya That makes me wonder, who are the new boybands these days? They have so many darn people trying and not succeeding at being singers or bands these days it's really hard to keep track. And the radio sucks these days. I almost only hear good music on rock stations or if it's just a rare new song from an old group
